The Wise Old Man and the Endless Spring: A Tale of Fairness and Harmony
Once upon a time, in a small village nestled in the rolling hills of a distant land, there lived a wise old man named Apportionment. Apportionment was known throughout the village as a master of fairness and justice, for he had a special gift - the ability to apportion resources with perfect fairness and equality.
One day, a great drought struck the land, and the crops began to wither and die. The villagers were in dire need of water, but there was only one source - a small spring located at the edge of the village. The villagers gathered at the spring every day, waiting for their turn to drink, but as the days passed, the line grew longer and longer.
Apportionment, seeing the struggle of his people, decided to use his gift to help. He went to the spring and, with a wave of his hand, divided the water equally among all those present. The villagers were amazed and grateful, but as they drank their fair share, they began to argue amongst themselves.
"I should have gotten more than you!" one person complained to another.
"But I need more water than you do!" argued a third.
Apportionment watched in dismay as the villagers fought and bickered over what was already an insufficient supply of water. He realized that his gift, while well-intentioned, had only caused more problems.
Determined to find a better solution, Apportionment closed his eyes and concentrated on the spring. He imagined the water flowing in a continuous loop, providing an endless supply for all who needed it. And as he focused, the magic of his imagination began to work its way into reality.
The spring began to glow with a soft, ethereal light, and the villagers felt a strange sensation - as if they were being drawn closer to the water by an unseen force. Slowly but surely, the line at the spring disappeared, replaced by a never-ending stream of water that flowed freely to all who needed it.
The villagers were amazed and grateful, and from that day on, they lived in peace and harmony, knowing that Apportionment's gift had provided them with an endless supply of the one thing they needed most - water. And as for Apportionment, he continued to use his magic to keep the spring flowing, always striving to find new ways to make life better for his people.
